People not connected to Freemasonry may not be aware that nearly all lodges hold no meetings between late June and early September. So why is this?
In the main, it is because Freemasons are expected to attend all regular meetings. In the case of Covenant Lodge that is just four every year on the dates shown in our online Lodge Diary. On this basis, missing one is a 25% absentee rate in one simple action. The desire to attend all lodge meetings would conflict with planned holidays were it not for the long Masonic summer break to which most lodges adhere.
No two lodges are identical and in some cases, lodges meet throughout the year on a monthly basis. Of course, with that level of frequency of meetings, missing one due to holiday commitments is much less significant.
Vive la difference!
